Glynneath won through to the quarterfinal of the Plate with a well deserved victory against a tough Nelson outfit. The Glynneath eight up against a heavier ,bigger pack made their intentions known from the first scrum driving the Nelson pack back .This was the pattern for the rest of the game and Jack O’Reilly punished them from one misdemeanour with a difficult penalty into the swirling breeze to put his side ahead. With his pack on top he saw them walk the home eight 30 metres and a precision cross kick by O’Reilly saw winger Steff Stone gather in the corner to get the touchdown. The home defence was taking a pounding but held Glynneath out and in only their second venture into the Glynneath 22,they were guilty of spilling the ball on the line !! Completely against the run of play Nelson scored a try on the stroke of halftime Rhys Gatt going over ,converted by James Spear.Soon after the restart Jack O’Reilly fired over another penalty to give his side breathing space and after a lull in the action O’Reilly kicked his third penalty of the game, which was quickly followed by another and when a great pressure kick by centre Gregg Roberts turned the home defence from the resulting lineout a drive to the line saw hooker Craig Tennant spin out of a tackle to crash over. This sealed the victory for the visitors and Nelson crossed for a consolation try in the last minute ,Alun Cooper scoring which was converted by James Spear .Full Time Nelson 14 Glynneath 22
