Ystalyfera v Glynneath
Glynneath went down to their first defeat at the hands of second placed Ystalyfera who leapfrogged them to the top of the table . Early Glynneath pressure as them going close before having to settle for three points from a Jack O’Reilly penalty.Another O’Reilly penalty from 40 metres dropped just short .The visitors had their opponents tied down deep in their half and they turned down another easy penalty electing to kick to the corner and the extra points. When this failed to produce a score Ystalyfera made their way down into the Glynneath 22 and were rewarded with a penalty of their own which Steff Castle fired over. With not much rugby in the first half to talk about ,the second half exploded into life when from the kick off ,Glynneath failed to take the restart and quick thinking at the resulting line out saw Ystalyfera captain Steff Jones race away for a try .Steff Castle adding a superb touch line conversion.Ystalyfera were on top and Castle fired over another penalty to increase his sides lead .It was Glynneath’s turn to struggle to get out of their half but when they finally did a great catch and drive from a line out took them close ,but Ystalyfera having judged to stop the move illegally suffered a yellow card . Another driving mail saw Glynneath’s captain James Parry getting the touchdown but to the surprise of both sets of players , the try was disallowed.
Steff Castle sealed the game with a penalty in the closing minutes .Full Time Ystalyfera 16 Glynneath 3
