Kenfig Hill v Glynneath

This is a fixture that’s produced it’s fair amount of drama over the years and this encounter served up some more .The Mules although their ground was deemed unfit they were desperate to get the game on and it was switched to a school field no doubt licking their lips after seeing their visitors result the previous week. When the home side raced into a ten point lead within eight minutes with tries by Mike Kennedy and Aaron Grabham they must have felt confident that their bigger pack would lay a platform to run in further tries .The first scrum proved not to be the case as the Glynneath eight pushed their opponents back and a penalty resulted in Dylan Francis firing over a superb effort into the strong wind to reduce the defecit. He slotted over a  similar effort minutes later.A long pass beat the Glynneath defence to allow Zac Wilson to stroll over in the corner for Kenfig Hills third try .Where it looked like like Glynneath were out of the game a well timed kick to the corner saw Full back Connor Tantum completely midfield near his own line to see Glynneath’s Jed O’Reilly pounce for a try .With Dylan Francis converting his side were right back in it .Again some lack of concentration saw the home side extend their lead when scrum Tom Briggs went over after a touch line break.Luke Griffiths who had left his kicking boots in the house finally nailed the conversion.Again Glynneath came back at their hosts ,Sean Tennant breaking through and wing Aled Evans raced away on a sidestepping run to the line .Francis showing his opposite number how it’s done slotted over the conversion. It was all Glynneath now with the home side , the cockiness gone out of their game hanging on as Glynneath pounded their line . They were rewarded when Jed O’Reilly went over wide out for his second try of the game.Dylan Francis again adding the extra points to make it 29-27 .Francis then put his side in front for the first time in the game with another penalty and when Glynneath were denied another try when the ref called them back for head injury they kept the pressure on but it was the home side who regained the lead with a Griffiths penalty. One thing the home side should know by now this Glynneath side are never beaten especially when playing the Mules and after the home side were given a yellow card preventing a try ,Dylan Francis consolidated his Man of the Match performance kicking the match winning penalty to stun their hosts once again and completing the double .
