Glynneath v Kenfig Hill

This season opener saw both sides suffering injuries in the first quarter, and it was the visitors who had Glynneath pinned in their own half during that period. On top at scrum time Kenfig Hill failed to make their dominance count and an exciting break out defence by Glynneath saw the ball fail to go to hand yards from the visitors line.Against the run of play Glynneath took the lead when scrum half Effan Ellis showed a cool head to delay his pass and put centre Jed O’Reilly through a gap to see the player race away to the line.Jaydon  Burton converting.Kenfig Hill suffered a further blow when they received a yellow card and Glynneath nearly increased their lead when a break and kick ahead by wing Aled Evans saw the visitors manage to clear their line. The visitors conceded a soft try when the alert Effan Ellis broke through and found Luke Weaver in support to finish.Jaydon Burton converting. A Jaydon Burton penalty increased his sides lead which looked like giving them a healthy first half advantage but Kenfig Hill crossed for a converted try on final minute of the half . Mikey Kennedy touching down and Luke Griffiths adding the extras . Looking at the opening exchanges it looked as if the Glynneath pack were in for a long day against the visitors eight but as the game wore on the home pack were winning breakdowns and running their heavier opponents around the park . Glynneath wasted no time getting on the score sheet after the break, Joe Hughes cut the home defence to shreds for a try .Again Jaydon Burton added the extra points. A Burton penalty increased his sides lead even further before the game threatened to boil over but the young Glynneath side didn’t take a backward step , not willing to be intimidated. It was Glynneaths turn to lose a man for ten minutes and the visitors took advantage , Josh Dixon going over in the corner ,Luke Griffiths converting. The Glynneath backs looked sharp when in possession and another great touch line move saw centre Alex Burton crossing in the corner . Tom Briggs gave his side hope when he pulled back a try for the visitors but normal service was resumed as firstly Glynneaths Conor Macmeneman was dragged down feet from the line the resulting penalty saw Burton stretch the lead again . Glynneath rounded off in style when wing Aled Evans intercepted in his own 22 and raced away but when he was caught deep in the visitors half he fed Jaydon Burton who crossed for a try to add to his points from the boot making it a 20 point haul . Full time Glynneath 40 Kenfig Hill 19
