Birchgrove v Glynneath

This Plate encounter proved to be an entertaining game with both sides running the ball at every opportunity. Glynneath got off to a flyer when after an early Jack O’Reilly penalty went over and even though it was cancelled out by a Steff Castle effort the visitors scored two excellent tries .The first after a penetrating touch line run by Jordan Griffiths, it was scrum half Geraint Walkman on his shoulder to go over . Jack O’Reilly converting well from the touch line. Glynneath hit their hosts with a superb second try , started in their own half the ball passed through many pair of hands before second row Connor McMenamin popped up out wide to run in to the corner.Another excellent touch line conversion by Jack O’Reilly adding the extras . If the Glynneath supporters  must have been thinking of a runaway victory it was the home side who came right back into the game with a try on the stroke of half time when they caught Glynneath cold with a quick tap penalty which the industrious full back Adam Rowlands finished off with a try .Steff Castle with the simple conversion.A Jack O’Reilly penalty kept Glynneath’s noses in front but again the home side came back with another try from a driving maul , veteran James Evans getting the touchdown. Castle converting to put his side back within three points.O’Reilly and Castle exchanged penalties. Birchgrove suffered a yellow card and they were punished with the resulting penalty by O’Reilly and then a second try by Connor McMenamin after good work by his pack.Jack O’Reilly fired over his fifth penalty of the game but now it was Glynneath’s turn to go down to fourteen men and like the visitors Birchgrove made the numerical advantage count and James Evans scored his second try of the game and with Castle’s conversion it set up a tense last few minutes as they defended their line desperately and were relieved to be awarded a penalty which they duly dispatched to touch for the final whistle to go .
