Aberavon Quins v Glynneath

This  was Glynneath’s first visit to Harlequin Road since 2013, when they won a Division Two game  85—14.

On a grey drizzly afternoon on a heavy pitch, the first half was not the inspiring rugby we have been treated to by Glynneath so far this season. Both teams were guilty of handling errors, needless penalties and aimless kicking, and at half time Glynneath lead 10 - 3, due to an early exchange of penalties by Dylan Francis and Foard Cooksley of Quins, and a Glynneath try by Owen Nesbitt, converted by Dylan Francis.

The half time talk by the Glynneath coaches lead to a better performance by the Glynneath team, however it was Quins who put the first points on the board in the second half with a penalty by Foard Cooksley to make the score 10 -6 to Glynneath.

Glynneath forwards started to show some dominance which lead first to an unconverted try by Craig Tennant, and a further Stuart Leach unconverted try to make the score 20 – 6, with a further penalty try awarded to Glynneath after Quins pulled down a maul on their goal line, to make the score 27 – 6.

Further dominant play by Glynneath lead to Alex Burton going over for a try, which substitute Jack O’Reilly duly converted to make it 34 – 6 to Glynneath.

Quins continued to try and penetrate the Glynneath, but the experience of the Glynneath defence showed, except for in the final minutes when Glynneath were reduced to 14 men due to a sin binning which allowed Dan Helston to go over for a consolation try for the Quins.

Final score Aberavon Quins 11 Glynneath 34.

A bonus point win now puts the unbeaten Glynneath side top of Division One West Central, with our nemesis Skewen to come to Abernant Park next Saturday!
