Glynneath v Tondu

This was the third meeting between these two sides this season each one full of drama. In wet conditions the skill level was surprisingly high by both teams.Glynneaths Dylan Francis was controlling the game in the opening quarter , his well judged kicks keeping the visitors pinned in their 22.Against the run of play Tondu opened the scoring when Ben Davies picked up to go over. Jamie Murphy converting.Glynneath came back at them and after a good period of play Dylan Francis fired over a difficult 40 metre penalty .Glynneath crossed for their first try when a lovely break by centre Sam Harris his long pass out wide found full back Jordan Griffiths and his pace saw him outstrip the visitors defence to score in the corner . Although another difficult kick for Francis he made no mistake with another great effort . On the stroke of half time Dylan Francis showed he had his kicking boots on with another long range penalty to increase his sides half time lead.Starting the second half Glynneath were on top at the scrums but were dealt a cruel blow when wing Aled Evans on another exciting run was sent off for allegedly use of the elbow but it showed that the forward trying to stop him slipped and went low on Evans but the referee adjudged differently and issued the red card. Tondu wasted no time to make the advantage count and from a line out near the home line Morgan Hughes going over which Jamie Murphy converted .Things looked ominous for Glynneath as it looked like Tondu would take control but this Glynneath side has shown character all season and the fourteen men took the game to Tondu and some ferocious tackling by the home side had the visitors back peddling conceding penalty after penalty. From one resulting penalty award the visitors discipline let them down and after back chat resulted in them being marched backwards to a position that made it a little easier for Francis attempt at the posts . Still a hard ask into the strong wind and rain , Francis delivered with a precision kick that sailed through the posts to give his side the lead . With torrential rain making the conditions worse in the last ten minutes it was Glynneath who were testing the Tondu line and when the referee blew for full time,it was the end of yet another titanic contest between the top two sides in the league Full time Glynneath 16 Tondu 14
